It’s not just calves that are in danger from C. parvum. It is also a threat to humans. The oocyst is very small and passes through all water filtration systems.  Since it is resistant to bleaches and soaps, C. parvum can be found in watersheds, swimming pools and daycare centers. It can be devastating to immune compromised people and young children.

A new scientific breakthrough is poised to give producers a powerful tool to help fight off this persistent parasite. Oragen Technologies has developed a process to generate killed C. parvum proteins representing every stage of its life cycle. The killed C. parvum proteins are delivered in a liquid form that can be mixed with milk and fed to calves. It allows the calf an opportunity to start an immune response. Then, when the parasite is present, the calf will be ready to fight it.
